VHS Students Attend Regional POL Workshop

On Saturday, January 19, 2019, Freshman Emmanuel Thornton, Sophomore Myasia Barron and Junior Landon Lindsay traveled to the Poetry Out Loud Regional Workshop held at the Telfair Center for the Arts in McRae, GA.  They participated in three sessions: Poetry Performance, Poetry Interpretation, and Microphone Management.  The workshop was hosted by POL state coordinator Emily Cobb.

Poetry Out Loud encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.  Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has grown to reach more than 3 million students and 50,000 teachers from 10,000 schools in every state, Washington, DC, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Emmanuel, Myasia, and Landon will compete Thursday, January 24, 2019, at 4:30 pm, in the Vidalia High School auditorium for the chance to represent VHS in February’s regional POL contest.  The public is invited to attend.
